FAQ
What is Level 1 Armory?
We make durable handmade wood swords, shields, and other weapons with paint kits. It's our dream to put safe, imaginative, and creative toys in the hands of every child.
What are your weapons made of?
Each item is made of 1/2 inch (12mm) Baltic birch plywood sourced domestically in the US and Canada. The plywood is solid layers cross-laminated hardwood. It is NOT particleboard or made by piecemeal, but instead veneered layers. This gives the weapons their strength.
The hardwood is BB grade meaning there are no voids and the surface has minimal blemishes, and any large blemishes are removed and replaced with "football" shaped inserts. Each weapon is handmade by US artisan based in Sandy, UT.
Can I use these weapons to practice sword fighting?
The short answer, YES! Be warned, as with any weapon, they can be broken (especially if used by adults at full force). As with real weapons, striking the weapons on its flat side with enough force will damage or destroy the weapon. However, striking the weapon with its "edge" it is remarkably durable, and comparable to most solid woods. Since the grain is laminated in layers, you're unlikely to have a weak point in the grain on any location.
Historically, knights and warriors would use wood weapons called "wasters" to practice battle because practicing with their steel weapons was both dangerous and expensive. It would destroy, dull or damage their far more expensive steel weapons. Traditionally, wasters were made of hickory, ash, or some other hardwood.

Returns & Refunds
If you're unsatisfied for any reason. Please let us know! Let us know what happened, and we will be happy to provide you with a replacement or a refund. Please note that as with any weapon, they will break eventually with use. We trust our customers know the difference between an expected and understandable break and a faulty product. Striking the weapon against the ground, trees, and rocks especially with the flat side will break it. It's not meant for that. However, it should stand in many battles against other wood swords, hammers, axes, maces, daggers, etc. Just remember to strike with the edge!
